Opening with one of the most intense, breath-stealing first chapters I have ever encountered, Daniel T. Jackson’s debut is a staggering literary triumph that completely blew past my expectations. Weaving together multiple distinct points of view without ever overwhelming the reader with bloated lore or generic exposition, the narrative explores heavy themes of fanaticism, lust, and revenge with uncompromising emotional gravity. Characters like Allana and Corin make calculated, intelligent decisions only to face gut-wrenching, unpredictable consequences, keeping you in a white-knuckled grip with zero sense of plot armor. Backed by sharp dialogue, an eerie willingness to make the reader deeply uncomfortable, and deaths that carry real, crushing weight, Illborn stands as an absolute tour de force.
